Cosphaderm® Hexiol is a pure, colourless and odourless diol with excellent water solubility, driven by its molecular structure containing two neighbouring hydroxyl groups and a short carbon chain. This property underlies its widespread use as a moisturiser and humectant in cosmetic formulations for skin and hair.
Studies using static light scattering reveal that Cosphaderm® Hexiol can also improve the stability of O/W emulsions by decreasing droplet size. In addition, 1,2-hexanediol offers pH-independent antimicrobial activity and exhibits strong synergistic effects with other antimicrobial agents, allowing for optimisation of preservative systems.
