Cosphaderm® AP an oil-soluble ester of ascorbic acid and palmitic acid. In comparison to ascorbic acid, this ascorbyl palmitate ester exhibits improved skin penetration and enhanced stability. As an established vitamin C derivative, it is suitable for use in skin-brightening applications. The primary function of ascorbyl palmitate is to act as a radical scavenger, interrupting oxidative radical chain reactions and, in some cases, regenerating depleted antioxidants. Through these mechanisms, Cosphaderm® AP effectively protects unsaturated fat and oil components, either on its own or synergistically in combination with other antioxidants such as tocopherols or rosemary extract, against oxidation.
