Cosphaderm® Hexiol natural is a pure, naturally sourced diol with a clear, colourless and odourless appearance. The presence of two neighbouring hydroxyl groups combined with a short hydrocarbon chain results in excellent water solubility, which underpins its common use as a moisturiser and humectant in cosmetic formulations for skin and hair.
Experimental data obtained by static light scattering indicate that Cosphaderm® Hexiol natural can also enhance the stability of O/W emulsions through droplet size reduction. In addition, 1,2-hexanediol provides pH-independent antimicrobial activity and displays pronounced synergistic effects in preservative systems, allowing for lower overall concentrations of antimicrobial agents.
